Flower's Barrow

Too tired last night to get out my maps and plan an expedition, so this morning defaulted to an old favourite walk, along the coast to Flower's Barrow, an Iron Age hillfort which has slowly been crumbling into the sea these past two thousand years.
Up on Flower's Barrow, it was very, very windy. It always is on hillforts. But the walk up wasn't too bad. The path is sheltered by gorse brakes most of the way, and it's only when you climb up onto the ramparts to take photos that the wind tries to blow you off your feet.

On the ramparts of the Iron Age hillfort with the wind trying to tumble me into the ditch.

Harebells dancing wildly on the ramparts.

The Isle of Portland on the horizon.

Runners starting the descent to Arish Mell.

The inlet at Arish Mell, and, jutting off the headland, Mupe Rocks.

Quite a few walkers and runners out early this morning, trying to beat the rain. The Met Office forecast showed scattered showers early (you only get rained on if unlucky), merging together later (you're going to get rained on no matter what).
The wind was quite chaotic, mostly southwesterly, but veering round to buffet anyone standing on the ramparts from unexpected directions. But I found a not-very-sheltered place to sit & rest - the wind can't blow you over when you are already sitting down - and the wind had to content itself with cooling my coffee.

Rain approaching from the west. Time to head home.

The first band of rain passed north of me, so I got to sit and drink another cup of coffee on the Weather Seat.

Actually it's a memorial bench, by the trig point. But if you sit there long enough, you can
Made it back to the car just as the rain started.
