Yarnbombing, Exmouth
Knitted/crocheted Punch & Judy show on top of a postbox. Postboxes in this country tend to get yarnbombed. They are a stationary target.

Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway
The "Lynton and Lynmouth funicular Cliff Railway opened in 1890 and is the highest and the steepest totally water powered railway in the world..." www.cliffrailwaylynton.co.uk/.

I popped briefly into Lynmouth for tea on my recent visit to Exmoor, and of course I couldn't resist taking the cliff railway, clanking my way up to Lynton, and back down again.

Exmoor
Picture taken from one of the roads that runs across the high ground of Exmoor, where there are sheep and Exmoor ponies and red Devon cattle roaming freely, and sometimes wandering along and across the road.

I was quite startled by Exmoor - by how high and how bleak the hills were. I suppose I was expecting something like the New Forest, or the Dorset heaths, with wide expanses of purple heather.

Malmsmead 2

Malmsmead is tiny. An arched stone bridge with a ford beside it. A National Trust tea room. A gallery. But it's the starting point for a walk along the remote valley of Badgworthy Water, setting of the 19th century romance, Lorna Doone.

Brendon Church 2
Brendon Church, dating from 1738. Dedicated to St Brendan, patron saint of navigators, which seems appropriate, as it is not an easy church to find.

Brendon Walk 6
Old packhorse bridge, Brendon. Exmoor has so many fabulous ancient bridges. You could do a photography tour just of Exmoor bridges.

Watersmeet Walk 4

I have been away, over the border in Devon for a few days, staying on Exmoor. The hills are higher and wider and wilder in Devon, and the valleys and the streams rockier. One day I followed the Coleridge Way long distance footpath from Rockford to Watersmeet.

Beer 5

No, not that sort of beer. Beer is the name of a picturesque fishing village in Devon.
