Roses in the rain
Jun. 5th, 2025 02:17 pm
Celebrated the return of the British summer - grey sky, rain and gales, at last! - and the acquisition of a new macro lens, by visiting the Secret Garden at Carey. Strangely, I had the rose garden entirely to myself. Just me, with my umbrella occasionally blowing inside out, and the roses uncomplaining in the wind and rain.

Holme Gardens in May

Aquilegia longissima.
Another warm morning. The gardens at Holme looked lovely in the sunshine, but this harsh light is horrible for flower photography. My camera just couldn't cope with the light/shadow contrast, and none of my pictures came out well.

Some things in the sunshine
Apr. 17th, 2025 04:38 pm

Wrens singing their hearts out. The rooks refurbishing their nests, and very noisy about it. ( Read more... )
November Gardens
Nov. 14th, 2024 01:33 pm
It's grey again, and there's a northeasterly wind blowing the leaves from the trees: November, doing the autumn thing properly.

Minterne Gardens
Nov. 2nd, 2024 04:34 pm
Made my usual autumn pilgrimage to Minterne Gardens to see the maples. Only there wasn't much daylight for photography, so my shots didn't come out sharp. It's artistic blur, I tell you.

The Gate Back to Summer
Oct. 17th, 2024 02:16 pm
Autumn is here. It's dark on my morning walks, and the Sika stags are wailing in the forest. But, fortunately, I know where there is a gate back to summer...
( A salvia spectacular )
