The car is the star
Jan. 13th, 2024 11:44 amMy car is back. I celebrated by going to the supermarket this morning. *sighs* Well, it's not like there's any daylight out there for photography, anyway... So. Very. Grey.
Very impressed with the garage I used yesterday. (Not my usual family garage, who were too busy to fit my car in for a service this month). They sent me a little 5-minute video of my car, up on the vehicle lift, filming all the parts they had inspected and that were fine, and all the parts they had inspected and that needed attention: perished suspension brushes, one tyre with the tread only just legal.
What a brilliant idea.
Dance practice was particularly shambolic last week, after the few weeks off for Christmas and the New Year, so we ended up doing each dance two or three times, until we got it right (except the Dance That Always Goes Wrong, where we sort of fumbled our way to the end. Please may I be excused from dancing that dance in public ever again...).
During the tea break, a dancer and an accordionist were talking about fitbits, holding out their wrists, comparing how many steps they had taken that day. The accordionist said that when he is playing he taps his toes, and the fitbit counts this as a pace. The fitbit had just informed him that he had reached his goal, but since he hadn't actually set a goal, he was a bit mystified. Someone suggested that his goal might have been a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Books read, Echoes of War, by Kristine Smith. Political/action/alien culture sci-fi. After a long break, a new book in the Jani Kilian series! I was worried it might be a bit of an afterthought to the series, but I enjoyed it a lot, which I rarely do with sci-fi these days.

I have been confusing my brain no end by trying to watch two Korean marriage revenge dramas simultaneously...
Marry My Husband on bilibili. Wife, murdered by her husband and betrayed by her best friend, gets to go back in time to try and change her fate. (Yes, the same plot device as Perfect Marriage Revenge - protagonists travelling back in time to enact revenge is a thing in Korean dramas). So far, this is a lot of fun.
My Happy Ending on viki.com. Another betrayed wife. Warning: contains an irritatingly weepy female lead, a car crash that defies the laws of physics, and a possible evil twin. I'm really not sure why I am watching this. So that I can complain about it, possibly?
Still watching the artist/deaf community Korean romance Tell Me That You Love Me on Disney+. It's slow-paced and subtle, and all about character. I love how no-one voices over the sign language for the deaf characters. This drama is not afraid of silence. There are even moments when the characters are shown signing, but there are no subtitles - so that you the viewer are deliberately left out of the conversation.
