At Chapman's Pool

A cold, misty morning. Perfect weather for walking down the green valley at Renscombe, to the sea at Chapman's Pool.

From the lane, onto the bridleway to Chapman's Pool:

The unstable clay geology of Chapman's Pool. A constantly changing landscape. Every few years the bridleway is lost under another small landslide and has to be cleared. And on the newly exposed soil, the weeds and the wild flowers flourish: Rosebay Willowherb and Great Willowherb, Teasels, Hemp Agrimony, Fleabane. In places, the bridleway passes through a canyon of brambles and old man's beard.

Jersey Tiger moth (Euplagia quadripunctaria).

By the slipway, C. went for a swim. I sat, wrapped my jacket round the shivering, abandoned terrier, and distracted her with some treats.

Quite a popular swimming spot.

It may have been warmer in the water than it was out in the wind and the sea fret on land.

Houns Tout Cliff crumbling into the sea.

Back up the bridleway to Renscombe...

Up on the headland, great flocks of finches feeding on the harvested fields.
