Cobweb, one of the sturdier fairies
Nov. 11th, 2024 08:52 pmThe sun came out. An afternoon walk through the forest. In the distance, a figure whose hands and arms were moving steadily, and who seemed to be winding something in. It must be a dog on a long lead, I thought at first. But no, no dog. As I got closer, a very sturdy bearded young fellow in a high viz waistcoat was still busy winding away at something I could not make out.
Nearing him, I turned to take another path. A line of some sort glinted in the sunlight at ankle height. I stepped over it. Carried on my way.
Conclusion: Cobweb, one of the sturdier fairies, winding spider silk for Titania.

There's a legend about one of the local Dorset churches - the villagers had planned to build it at the foot of a local hill that had a bit of a strange reputation, but kept finding that all their building materials had been moved a few miles away. The church ended up being built in the new location.
