The sun came out. An afternoon walk through the forest. In the distance, a figure whose hands and arms were moving steadily, and who seemed to be winding something in. It must be a dog on a long lead, I thought at first. But no, no dog. As I got closer, a very sturdy bearded young fellow in a high viz waistcoat was still busy winding away at something I could not make out.

Nearing him, I turned to take another path. A line of some sort glinted in the sunlight at ankle height. I stepped over it. Carried on my way.

Conclusion: Cobweb, one of the sturdier fairies, winding spider silk for Titania.

You can always depend on the fae to try and pull a trick on you when you least expect it! This is why I trust gnomes more tbh (or are the gnomes in Europe similarly puckish?)

I'm not sure that we have gnomes, other than the brightly coloured garden ornaments, of course. We have pixies in Cornwall and boggarts in the North of England and in Wales. Boggarts are more domestic fae, but they do play tricks.
