Flickr are running their end of year "Your Best Shot" competition, and I have been looking over the entries on the Best Shot Group now and again. There are some fabulous shots. (Though it seems there is a fashion for over-processing shots this year, which makes me wince a bit).
I didn't have a "best" shot this year. My photos were okay. Damnable with faint praise. But I didn't have a single one of those photos where something went beautifully wrong - the light was weird, or I had the camera on the wrong settings - and the shot accidentally ended up transcending the subject.
To be fair, we haven't had much sun this year: a lot of lovely soft rainy days for walking in, but not much in the way of glorious light. And it's hard to paint with light when there's no light.

Date: 2024-12-04 04:54 pm (UTC)I have found some beautiful places to walk lately. It's probably a bit too much to wish for beautiful Mediterranean light as well!

On walks, so much is dependent on the light, isn't it? You can photograph the same location several times, and one day the light will be absolutely perfect, and the photo will have a completely different quality. I think we've been battling the light this year.
