The sun is shining, and there is warmth in the sunlight. Out in the forest, blue sky & black pines. Golden gorse flowers. The woodlarks singing.

The sort of day when things begin to wake up. I thought I would head over to the Secret Garden, to see if I could spot my first Brimstone butterfly or queen bumblebee of the year. Wandered the paths, listening to the birdsong. Even in the walled garden, protected from the frost, nothing in blossom yet, and the daffodils not in flower.

Saw my first bumblebees of the year, big furry queens nectaring on dead nettle flowers, and zooming in and out of the greenhouse windows. Inside the greenhouse, white blossom on one potted lemon tree, and a strange, fingered yellow fruit on another, labelled 'Citrus Buddha's Hand'.

I went to take pictures, but my camera was completely dead. Battery failure? Something more serious? Was the sudden shock of being asked to take a picture in beautiful light (after months of wintry gloom) too much for it?

Oh, well. If worst comes to worst, I've had the Canon 80D a few years, and it was secondhand when I bought it, so I suppose it went two or three years past warranty, which is the most you can reasonably expect from any a modern device.
