On the drive home, diverted to the little tea room at East Creech, for a pot of tea and a croissant, sitting outside in the rain. They do have a little shed there for customers to sit in on rainy days, but this was occupied by a pair of women who were discussing a friend's medical history. (Such discussions are a known hazard of tea rooms.) Outside was more peaceful. And, sitting outside, the tea room sparrows come and perch on chairs, and chirp at you in an effort to extort baked goods.
