The woods in the rain
Jun. 12th, 2025 01:44 pm

Rain washing the grasses along the edge of the heath.

Heath Spotted Orchid.

The Tea Brown Lake mourning a lack of spaniels.

On the drive home, diverted to the little tea room at East Creech, for a pot of tea and a croissant, sitting outside in the rain. They do have a little shed there for customers to sit in on rainy days, but this was occupied by a pair of women who were discussing a friend's medical history. (Such discussions are a known hazard of tea rooms.) Outside was more peaceful. And, sitting outside, the tea room sparrows come and perch on chairs, and chirp at you in an effort to extort baked goods.

Date: 2025-06-13 03:38 pm (UTC)Yes. We've just had the driest spring on record. It is such a joy to see proper Dorset rain again.

Date: 2025-06-12 04:08 pm (UTC)We had an actual cloudburst this afternoon, but mostly everything is still parched. Baked, cracked earth. And I assume drought is why all the horse chestnuts are falling, though still only the size of aniseed balls.

Date: 2025-06-13 03:42 pm (UTC)It was such a relief to see the rain again. We've had a crazily dry spring. I was hoping for a couple of weeks of proper British summer weather - cool and pleasantly rainy - but it looks like it's turning hot again next week.
