Pines

Still raining. Will it ever stop? Probably. And even if it doesn't, the willows and the alder won't mind, and I suppose Spring will find a way, eventually. The daffodils in my garden are sulking. Not one flowering early. Even the little 'Tête-à-tête' daffs are saying "Nothing doing".

Paid a reduced price out-of-season visit to the Blue Pool, for old time's sake, but it was pretty grim. I should have stuck to my resolution never to visit again.

Rope Bridge, Blue Pool
Rope bridge - installed since my last visit. Yes, I walked across it. I've never walked across a rope bridge before. It was extremely bouncy. For a few minutes after I came off it, I still felt like I was bouncing up and down. *shakes self*

Well, that was a new thing.

No pictures of the Blue Pool today. They are currently running their winter illuminations, so there is heavy duty electrical equipment and cabling everywhere, and rafts of lights moored in the centre of the pool. Also, it began to rain very heavily as I was circling the pool, and I had left my umbrella in the car. (Not very bright of me. We have been having sudden ambush showers all week. Why did I think today would be exempt?)

I would have loved to shelter in the tea room, which looked incredibly cosy with its lights lit and the woodsmoke rising from its chimney. But they were playing music both inside and outside on the terrace, very loud, some kind of plinky cool jazz, which would have been absolute torture to me, so I went home tealess.

The walk around the pool through the pines and the rhododendron, with the rain falling, that was pleasant enough. But the thing that used to make the Blue Pool special - that sense of presence, that there was a slightly mischievous genius loci lurking - that is gone now.

The presence must not like loud cool music either. :(

I don't know whether we've had an entirely dry day this year. We've had dry intervals, but I don't think any of them have lasted 24 hours.

It is so sad when a place you have loved for a long time gets an inappropriate makeover.
