On Sunday I met C. and her Manchester Terrier, and we took a walk through the woods near Briantspuddle on a fine October morning. The woods full of sunlight, and cheerful Polish couples foraging for mushrooms. C. got chatting with a young woman who showed us her most treasured find of the morning, a huge and splendid Penny Bun mushroom (Boletus edulis) which she was planning to pickle.

Aniseed Funnel (Clitocybe dealbata) - bright blue when young, strong aniseed smell.

The paths are still unusually dry...

The river at Throop still quite low for this time of year.
