January in the Forest

A sharp frost. Some difficulty getting into my car, which had frozen solid, but I finally managed to persuade the passenger door to open.



Yesterday the Met Office forecast gave the possibility of freezing fog overnight, so I set the alarm early to head out with the camera before sunrise. But the freezing fog never materialized, instead there was bright sunshine.

Out in the forest, sandy paths frozen hard. Ice on puddles. The gorse and the birch and the heath grasses silvered with frost.

I found a path I hadn't followed before, that led nowhere in particular. Along it a woodlark was singing.

Oh, I love the sepia in this series of photos.

It's so interesting when one's camera captures the exact hues of vintage photographs.

I thought I might go for a short walk today, but it's clouded over and so it's just cold and grey out there.

There's not much colour in the forest at this time of year. On frosty days, even colour photos look like black-and-white. But luckily the winter sunlight dyed everything in sepia tones!

Yes it's so much easier to motivate yourself to walk when the sun is out. We've actually seen the sun for two days in a row now, but I think it's due to cloud over for the rest of the week.

The light was fabulous that day. Makes up for the last two weeks of rain!
