On the beach

The weather forecast for today was not great, but last week's cold has left me with a sinus headache, and I thought some sea air might help.


An early morning walk along Studland Beach at high tide. Recent storms have scattered bunches of sea-grass along the tideline, left the sea an undecided shade somewhere between grey and brown.






Ominous cloud, but the rain held off.





Sat for a while on the dunes, drinking coffee, watching the waves wash in, and the dogs fly by in pursuit of balls and other dogs and happiness.






Beach life. The summer season is over, and dogs are allowed free run of the beach again.

When I arrived back at the car park, it was full, and hundreds of runners were making their way towards the beach for the start of an organised 12K race - the Studland Stampede. The narrow high-tide beach was about to become very crowded...

I like these atmospheric pictures and the sense of 'local beach for local people'. It's more than twelve months since I last stood on a beach, so I'm due a recharge...

I've never seen the attraction of beaches in summer. But beaches out of season are wonderful places.

That sky looks very threatening. I'm glad it stayed dry. And yes, it's nice to get our beaches back from the visiting hordes.

The clouds loomed ominously all morning, but it was an empty threat. The rain didn't arrive till late afternoon.

Yes! The beaches belong to the the walkers and the dogs and the horses again.

Always preferred stormy beaches to sunny. This looks like the right amount of wild weather.

Same here. I love walking beside the sea on grey days. This beach is pretty safe, even on the wildest of days, because the bay is sheltered by a headland and the shore is very shallow so the waves never get too huge. Just occasionally I misjudge them and get my feet wet...
