The Sound of Magic Korean musical fantasy. Since it is a) a musical, and b) on Netflix, I was expecting this to be possibly the most cringeworthy thing ever. I'm guessing it won't be to everyone's taste, but I absolutely adored it. Watched all six episodes over two days. Loved the main characters; the poor student, abandoned by her parents and whose life is all hardship, and the mysterious magician living in a derelict theme park, who claims to work real magic. Loved the pacing, the mystery, and the sweetness of the story.
And Ji Chang-wook as a musical star! Unexpectedly, it works. (I loved his action dramas, but have never got on with any of his romances).
NB The opening dance sequence is a bit weird, but doesn't actually have anything to do with the story.
Currently watching:
Be Reborn Chinese crime drama on youTube. A student, whose father was a famous art thief, gets caught up in the battle of wits between a group of thieves and the cop who is chasing them. Only watched the first ten episodes, but the writing and pacing are excellent - very, clever, very exciting. And Zhang Yi as the cop is just brilliant.
Of course, Chinese dramas tend to be written by a team, rather than an individual, so there's no guarantee the writing won't take a nosedive into stupidity in the second half.
