Swanage in the Rain

After seven glorious sunny days to start the new year, January has a lot of catching up to do in the Rain & Gloom department. Judging by today, it seems to be making good progress on the backlog. I went to Swanage, which is by the seaside and therefore Cosmopolitan, with three different Italian cafés, and treated myself to coffee and a croissant and the pleasure of watching people pass by in the rain.

Took my little Pentax camera, wrapped in a plastic bag, and snatched some shots, one-handed, while trying to wrestle an umbrella in the wind and rain.




In the amusement arcade, one solitary person wandering around staring disconsolately at the soft toys. A staff member? Someone who has lost their fortune on the grabber machines?










On the left, the flood defences. They probably came in handy during Storm Goretti, judging by the amount of shingle still on the road along the seafront.

I want to say that there was no-one - no-one at all - sitting in the seafront shelters... but that would be inaccurate:

Those are two of the most fed up pigeons I've seen for quite some while!

They gave me a bit of a hopeful look when I went and sat down at the other end of the shelter, then realised I didn't have any food, and went back to looking glum.

I rather like sitting in a seafront shelter like an old couple - as long as I am am dry, wrapped-up warm and have a coffee.

Yes. The Victorians knew what they were doing when they built those lovely seafront shelters. Perfect spot for a coffee!
