Winter Garden

Cornus sanguinea.

It actually stopped raining today, for what seems like the first time in weeks (months?), so I took a half day off work, and headed over to Holme Gardens with the camera.



The sweet scent of Daphne in the air:


Daphne bholua 'Jacqueline Postill'.


Hamamelis.


A vague impression of Viburnum farreri 'Candidissimum' in a strong wind.

It was cold, and it was windy - windy enough to make macro photography a bit of a challenge - but even in winter there's some colour here, especially in the Henge Garden with its conifers, ornamental grasses, dogwood, and winter-flowering heathers.











And even some rather confused daffodils. (My pots of daffodils at home are just, just starting to send up green shoots. Tentatively. Not expecting much).

That henge garden is lovely. Such clever planting to provide colour in the most dismal part of the winter.

Yes - extremely clever planting. To create a garden with so much colour even at this, the greyest time of year.

So much rain, this last week. It was glorious to see a colour that wasn't the colour grey!
