Arne in January

Another still, cold day, the temperature hovering around 0 degrees C. A few icy patches on the lane down to Arne, and one place where the tarmac is half washed away. Arrived early, before the Sunday crowds, and took the path through the woods down to Shipstal Point.

Fluffed-up robin. Very tame. I think visitors must feed him or her.




Brent Geese feeding at the harbour's edge, hard to see, but their babbling gives them away. I didn't get any good bird shots on this visit - the ducks and waders were all too far out in the harbour.

I found the ghost! Those misty shots look so otherworldly--they really could be the landscape for a planet the protagonists set down on. Love the sika deer wading in the waters.

I love seeing the Sika deer wandering round the harbour. It amuses me no end that someone decided to introduce them as an ornamental species on Brownsea Island in the 19th century, knowing nothing about their strong swimming skills.

Those landscapes are beautiful, though I'm sure it was really cold and you were brave to venture out. We've just got the dull grey weather with a flat sky. No light worth going out with the camera for.

The light was unexpectedly delicate yesterday. I was expecting flat greyness all day.

I don't mind the frost, as long as there's no wind. When the wind gets up, and it starts cutting through the layers, walking is no longer a pleasure.
