Sculpture by the Lakes

It was cold, and it was grey, and it seemed like a good day for walking by the water, so I went over to Pallington, to visit Sculpture by the Lakes.













If I'm honest, I like the willows and the lakes more than I like the sculptures. Giant bronze birds just make me raise my eyebrows. Textual art with inspiring messages makes me think about the splash I would cause if I jumped into the lake.






"With courage, nothing is impossible", in gold letters. (Even if you write something in gold letters, it doesn't make it true).

I will admit to liking some of the more abstract pieces, the way the shapes talk to the landscape.

I love how well considered the placement of these is, particularly the ones that are actually in the water.

Yes. On a still day the play between sculptures and reflections is glorious.

I love that face on the water. Especially the side view in your first photo, it looks so eerie.

I don't care for words that tell me to do something like that. I mean isn't it obvious?

I find modern sculpture -- and modern art in general -- rather hit and miss. But I do like some of those pieces and there's something rather nice about wandering around a park and coming across sculptures.

Yes, even though I may not always appreciate the individual pieces, it's wonderful to just wander around, never quite knowing what you will come across!

Yes. I've been visiting regularly since Sculpture by the Lakes first opened, and over the years the owners have created something amazing.
