Kingston Maurward, February

A day off work. Headed over to Kingston Maurward, because hope springs eternal, even when I know it's too early for the spring flowers to be out in the Spring Garden...





A peaceful walk around the lake, on a cold grey winter morning. Just me and the mallards. And the occasional lurking student from the agricultural college. A little icy drizzle in the air.



On the south facing slopes by the house, spring has started to arrive:












The first bumblebee of the year, so heavily coated in crocus pollen that it could scarcely see where it was flying.

What beautiful flowers! It's been a gorgeous day here for early February, but not really any signs of spring flowers yet.

When the sun comes out, it is actually warm here. Warm enough for the bumblebees to be out. If we don't have another freeze I think the daffodils will be appearing soon.

It's still freezing here at nights, but during the day there's actually a little warmth in the sun now. Everything seems to be waking up.

That is kind of how it has been here. But we will have frost danger until April 1st, typically.

Yes, same here. We often get a week of warm, spring-like weather in February, then the frosts come back with a vengeance in March...
