Mar. 29th, 2022 05:22 pmStruggling to find any Chinese or Korean drama I want to bingewatch at the moment... I know we are unlikely ever to see another Untamed thanks to increased censorship, but it seems so long since we last had a Minglan or Joy of Life.
I did enjoy Chinese detective series Under the Skin on iq.com. Not impressed by any of the murder plots, but the evolving relationship between the two main characters was excellent, and Tan Jian Ci as the police portraitist was fantastic. Loved the scenes of him painting.
Gave up on Korean legal drama One Ordinary Day on DVD. Unrelentingly grim, as the main character, a naive young student is slowly ground to pieces by the Korean legal system. I think maybe it was a deliberate artistic decision to leave the main character something of a blank, so the viewer cannot judge whether he was capable of committing the crime, and there's nothing to distract from the processes of the criminal justice system, but for me that made the series less compelling.
Started watching Korean legal/military drama Military Prosecutor Doberman on viki.com, because it's a revenge drama, and I'm usually a sucker for Korean revenge melodramas (the lighter, less bloody ones). But the characters are all cartoonish - no real depth. Meh.

Department of breathless anticipation: new Lee Joon-gi action drama, Again My Life, is out early April. (Lee Joon-gi fans will know what I mean.) If only it can be as good as Flower of Evil & Lawless Lawyer...
