A cold northwesterly wind blowing this morning, strong enough to steal a person's hat. Not a day to go walking on the high ground. But the ground has dried out enough now for the sheltered path along the foot of the Purbeck Hills to be passable.

A fuzz of green along the Underhill Path, as the hawthorn and the hazel and the dogwood break out into leaf. Chaffinches and blackbirds fluttering along the path in the sunlight. Chiffchaffs and yellowhammers singing.
