The Dark is Rising

-6 degrees C. On the north side of the Purbeck Hills, the river valley and the heath silver with hoar frost.



To the south, near the sea, the fields only lightly touched with frost at the edges.

Very, very cold up on the hills. I'm on my second cup of coffee, and I'm just starting to thaw out.

As I arrived back, the postman (who was on strike yesterday) was on his rounds. He was wearing shorts.
