Snowfall

Well, the Met Office got it utterly and gloriously wrong this morning...



I was going to head out with the camera at daybreak to photograph the frost, but when I opened the door I could hear a hissing sound - frozen rain, falling onto sub-zero ground. Decided that driving anywhere might be a bad idea. And anyway, my car was all shiny with a coating of impenetrable ice, and I didn't fancy chipping it out. Let the Snow Queen borrow it for a day, I thought, and went back in and put the kettle on.

But as I was sipping my tea, I looked out of window, and saw that it was snowing. Proper snow! So I bundled myself back up, and headed out into the forest. Got to make the most of snow - we might go five or ten winters here without seeing snow, and even then it rarely lasts more than a day. (Of course, when it does last more than a day, the whole country grinds to a standstill...)












Pristine tracks. No-one else out yet. Though it wasn't long before I met the first spaniel owner.






The snow didn't last long. By the time I came back, it had stopped falling, and the forest was full of people cheerful with wonder, and excited children trying to sledge on not enough snow.

Our snow fell overnight and everywhere looks quite pretty. However, not quite pretty enough to tempt me out of my cosy study, especially as it's only a skimpy layer.

The prettiness never lasts long - we're at the icy slush stage now, and I don't think I dare go out walking again until it thaws.

So beautiful!!! Oh, I wish it would snow where I am living. I miss living in more seasonal climates.

We don't often see snow, this close to the south coast, but when we do, it's just magical. I'm so glad it fell at the weekend, so that I could get outside and enjoy it.

I forget - I always forget during our snowless years - just how beautiful the snow is...

I love the look of snow and your photos are lovely.
We have gotten 7 inches so far this season and there are 3 inches on the ground and not going anywhere soon. You are lucky yours is melting! :-D

Yes, as much as I love the snow when it's falling, it's a relief when the ice melts away from the roads and pavements. The cold snap is due to end here in the next few days, and we should be back to +10 degrees C and rain by the weekend.
