These days more of our walks are along lanes and tracks. We're getting too old to head off across rugged mountain terrain and bogs. Well, at least I am. I think G could still do it, but I prefer a firm path.

Same here. Although we don't have rugged mountain terrain, we do have a lot of very muddy fields, which are such a slog to walk across at this time of year. If I'm planning a circular walk, I usually try to plan it so that at least half the route is along lanes or farm tracks.
