Poole Palimpsest

They are tearing Poole down, to build it back up. All the scruffy old waterfront businesses demolished to make way for blocks of flats. (It really will be "Waterside Living" when the sea levels rise...)

But the cranes are beautiful.






The old Dorset Steam Company engineering works (which once produced steam-powered cars!), still standing, just about. But its days are numbered.

It's sad to see old industrial buildings go, but sadly there is no longer a need for them and people want expensive flats in dockside areas.

I just wish that Poole was being redeveloped in a more thoughtful way, with interesting & futuristic architecture, rather than endless ugly blocks of flats with glass balconies. Something with character to replace the heritage that is being lost. But it's all about money, and no thought to posterity.
