To the Tea Brown Lake

Yesterday a walk out through the oak woods, and onto the heath in search of Marsh Gentians. But it was a grey day, not much light for photography.
The woods still green, but puffballs are popping up in the leaf litter. A carpet of acorns and squirrel-nibbled hazelnuts on the path. Up in the branches, robins are starting to sing their autumn songs.

The sun came out briefly, decided the game wasn't worth the candle. Went back in again.

Out on the heath, Marsh Gentian (Gentiana pneumonanthe). An unfeasible blue. Not many in flower this year, compared to the last few years.

A mild enough day for the grasshoppers to still be singing on the heath.
Came back by the Tea Brown Lake. A few Hawker dragonflies still on the wing. Nothing to disturb the quiet surface of the water these days, except pondskaters, falling leaves.
