The Return of Owl
Nov. 18th, 2023 11:57 am
It's so long since I last did a Still Life, I have forgotten everything: lighting, composition, lines, colour...
Subject:
I saw some quinces in the the posh new deli at Corfe Castle last week, and who can resist photographing quinces, right?
Also, my chrysanthemums are in flower. Last year I ordered some white spider chrysanthemums from Sarah Raven, and, when they flowered, found that a single flame-coloured chrysanthemum had infiltrated the order. No complaints. I don't know what variety it is, but the colour is glorious, very welcome at this grey time of year.
Photography notes:
Grey daylight. Tripod shod. f10 for a good depth of field, 0.4s, ISO100.
Composition:
The lines are all over the place, and something out of shot has horrified Owl. But, hey, quinces. You can't go wrong with quinces.

Thank you for your post.

Date: 2023-11-19 08:59 am (UTC)If I place Owl facing out of the picture, Owl looks horrified at something out of shot. If I place Owl facing towards the camera, Owl looks horrified at being part of a Still Life arrangement. Can't win.

Date: 2023-11-19 09:00 am (UTC)Quinces make such beautiful subjects. I wish I had the skill to paint them.
