Sculpture by the Lakes

The last few days have been cold and grey and very still, the sort of weather that makes you want to photograph lakes. So on my day off I headed over to the sculpture park at Pallington Lakes. But the wind had got up overnight, and it was a day of ripples, not reflections.

Still, leaves were falling under the grey sky. The wind was hissing in the reeds. Not a bad day to be walking by the water.




There is a giant sculpture of a bird beside the lakes: the central/signature piece of the site. To be honest, every time I catch a glimpse of it as I walk around the lake, it startles me. Not that I've ever heard rumours of it attacking visitors. It's just too big.

A very peaceful place. The only sounds bird calls, running water, and the wind. And the gentle bonging of a kinetic sculpture that sounds a little like a distant temple bell.

The sun came out briefly. I thought about having tea and cake at the restaurant, but it is always empty, and the staff are too intimidating, so I went home instead.

What a lovely walk! Quite a few of those sculptures look so nice and to hear a sound resembling temple bells sounds amazing.

It was the perfect walk for the end of a busy week. So peaceful.

The kinetic sculpture - like giant wind chimes - was quite clever. It managed to sound low and distant even when you were quite close.
