The road is closed, and inhabitants of the neighbouring village have to wade into town to get their shopping at this time of year.

Oh my gosh. You posted a similar photo the other day and I thought it was a river, not a street! Wading into town, oh dear.

Well, up on the pavement the water isn't very deep. Quite a few people were making the walk into town just for pleasure. The flooded fields are quite pretty.

This is normal winter weather for us. The fields by the river flood most winters, and the road is often closed for weeks at a time.

At least these days there's an alternative road people can take that runs along a high embankment and stays above the floodwater.

Thank goodness for human ingenuity. I couldn't imagine being a villager back in ye olde jolly old England and having to brave that kind of weather.

I suppose that as long as you know you need to wear tall wellies to go into town, it's fine.
