The Blue Pool again

The Blue Pool, not very blue.
A day off work. A drizzly grey morning. I thought it might be a good day to take a quiet wander round the Blue Pool.
My first visit to the Blue Pool since I lost Max, I think. It's expensive now: £7.50 to get in, which is a lot for a visit to an old clay pit. But the people who took over after Miss B.'s death own a string of tourist attractions, and have invested a lot of money in modernising the site, adding all sort of obtrusive things: notice boards, a deck that juts out into the pool, which people can hire.
Whereas for me the whole attraction used to be that the Blue Pool was peaceful, neglected, magically stuck forever in the 1950s.

The shallower end of the pool had maybe a hint of blue.

I treated myself to a cheap secondhand weather-sealed camera for my birthday - a Pentax K-5 - so that I can take a camera out on days when the forecast is dodgy (most days right now). Not sure how much of a bargain it will be. It seems solidly built, but whether the sealing can cope with Dorset levels of rain, we will see. (I've bought some plastic rain-sleeves to use with it as well, to give it a fighting chance). I can't say the photos I took with it today were much good, but I'm still getting used to it, finding out where all the buttons are.
After my circuit of the pool, I would have gone into the tea room for tea and a tiny scone, in memory of Max. But when I opened the door, they were playing Christmas muzak, so I backed straight out.

Date: 2023-12-14 03:34 pm (UTC)I hope the Pentax works for you for bad weather days. One of the photographers I sometimes watch on YouTube used to use the Canon M50 as his main video camera and claimed it was water sealed, but I haven't dared to risk mine in the Welsh rain, even with a plastic rain sleeve.

Date: 2023-12-15 06:21 pm (UTC)Now I've bought the weather-sealed camera to photograph rain, the forecast for the weekend is just grey cloud! Looks like there will be no light for any sort of photography...
