Still Life with Owl among the Walnuts 2

Lighting: a little grey daylight spilling in through nearly-drawn curtains. Tripod shot. Exif: f9, 2 seconds, ISO100.

Still Life with Owl among the Walnuts 1
Exif: f10, 8 seconds, ISO100. As usual, Owl is unimpressed.

The crop I think works better than the whole arrangement, which falls into the usual Still Life trap of having all the objects clumped together, and the negative space round the outside. Well, it's been a while since I last tried a Still Life.

I love the low key lighting. Personally I think a crop which includes just the left hand side might work. That is, cutting out everything to the right of the walnut which is in front of and slightly to the right of Owl. But the drape of the cloth is good and as I say the lighting is great.

Perhaps the tea lights could have their own composition? They are very pretty.

I love the cropped one.It makes me think of one of the Stills we used to try to paint in class. The candles are a striking part.

It looks very, what's that word...
chiaroscuro!

Yes, lots of candles to make up for your grim weather.
