On Corfe Common
Dec. 23rd, 2023 01:29 pm
Met up with C. and her Manchester Terrier for a walk around Corfe Common. The weather wasn't as bad as the forecast had predicted. The sun broke through the cloud now and then, and there were rooks playing in the cold wild west wind. Along the lane, the hedges still laden with scarlet hips and haws, plump black sloes not yet wizened by frost.
Afterwards, coffee and a scone at the Model Village, sitting in the courtyard, somewhat sheltered, though the wind was still playing with the furled up table-umbrellas and the awning, and amusing itself by occasionally knocking flat the A-board at the entrance. The normally busy café very quiet - I suppose everyone must be panic-shopping. We had the courtyard to ourselves.
Coming out of the café, an elderly woman was shouting to a woman who was just climbing into a parked car: "Ask him if he's still wearing shorts, Amanda!"
The gentleman in the car shouted back: "Not today, I'm not. I wasn't sure if we were going to Swanage."
