Above Ringstead

White Nothe, under a squall.
Up on the hill above Ringstead Bay at sunrise, with the wind still gusting very strong, very cold, shaking the blackthorn, trying to push walkers into puddles. Overhead, against the cloud, gulls soaring, and rooks playing tumbling games.

Out to sea, white horses in the bay, rain slanting down from squall clouds. Ships sheltering in Portland roads.

Forgive any camera-shake. The wind was trying to blow me over.
Took the steep downhill track to the little wooden church, St Catherine by the Sea, and found a sheltered bench in the lea of a thorn hedge to sit for a while, and watch the squall clouds travelling by out over the sea.

I visited back in 2022, if you want to see inside.

View from the churchyard.

White Nothe.

If I had been a more intrepid photographer, I would have taken the slippery mud path along the cliffs to White Nothe, with its fabulous views of the Jurassic Coast. But following a slippery mud path along cliffs, in a gale, is a bit too exciting for me. I turned back.
And even the farm tracks leading inland weren't looking very inviting: more mud and puddle than solid earth. Even when the sun broke through the cloud, and they shone silver.
