Falling blossom

The wind has swung round to the south-west, much warmer, and I went walking through a snow of falling blossom at Holme Gardens...









Rhododendron 'Solidarity'.

It's too late for tulips now, too early for roses. But other odd things are flowering.

Beautiful!

I had an odd sort of shock at the weekend walking through the local botanic gardens and noticing that the cherry blossom was out. It's been such a half-hearted April round here that seeing the cherry blossom felt like walking away from a bus stop after an hour's no-show only for the vehicle in question to go speeding past.

This is the first year that the cherry trees have been mature enough to put on a proper display at this brand new garden... It has been amazingly beautiful.

Yes. It doesn't really feel like we had a proper spring at all here. More like a very long mild wet winter that fooled all the plants into flowering early.

The flowering cherries in the gardens of the nearby flats were in full bloom, but are now dropping their petals. Meanwhile the weather is trying to take a step back into winter. We had a steady downpour and high winds yesterday and much cooler temperatures.

Oh, this weather! Where has the sun gone?

Given a choice between last week's cold grey dry weather and this week's warm grey wet weather, I think I'd probably choose the cold over the rain...
