Hill Bottom to Chapman's Pool

A grey still day, quite pleasant for walking once you were off the high ground, and out of the north wind.

Setting off from the little car park at Renscombe, down into the combe.

And from Hill Bottom, onto the track down to the sea:

The path is clay, and a challenge to walk after wet weather, but luckily we're having a dry spell.

The grey, unstable rock of Chapman's Pool and Hounstout - Kimmeridge Clay and Portland Sand - in a constant state of slippage.

Sat for a while near the slipway, in the shelter of one of the old boathouses, while C. went for a quick swim. (She reported that the water temperature is still warmer than the air temperature, taking into account the north wind. I took her word for it.).

Portrait of an old girl. A little deaf and a little blind now, but still a very sprightly old girl.

Coming back through the little scattering of cottages at Hill Bottom, someone had put up a sign advertising tea and cake, and it turns out that, on sunny days, someone has a little pop-up cafe in their back garden for passing walkers & cyclists. And we sat there, with the sun trying to come out, and the rooks cawing on the hillside above, drinking splendid tea (made with water from the spring which supplies the house, the owner informed us), and eating very nice cake.
