Bossington

The village of Bossington with its traditional tall chimneys. (I'm guessing something about the local weather conditions meant that the chimneys had to be tall to draw properly, rather than it just being a contest to see whose was the biggest?)






I think the round structure on the right was once a bread oven.


Bossington Tea Gardens. Lovely tea and cake, I can report, and very peaceful.

There must be a reason why those tall chimneys originally evolved in the villages in the valleys around Porlock, but you do have to wonder whether there was a competitive element!

It looks beautiful, though tall chimneys worry me. I lay awake at night when a storm's up, worrying that mine is going to come crashing down.

Definitely. And some of the tall chimneys in Porlock were decidedly wonky. I'm guessing builders there do good business on the local chimneys.
