Sunset walk, St Aldhelm's Head
Nov. 29th, 2025 07:25 pm

Set off along the chalk track to St Aldhelm's Head, just as the sun was setting. In the distance, impressive ranks of rainclouds, which fortunately decided to stay out over the sea.

Accompanied on my walk by the half moon.

St Aldhelm's Quarry.

Gulls wheeling through the sunset sky.

Nearing the sea, St Aldhelm's Chapel and the old coastguard cottages.

Sat for a while on the cliffs, watching for the flash of light from Portland Bill lighthouse.
Headed back along the chalk track with darkness falling. First Saturn appeared beside the half moon, then the constellations gradually revealing themselves: Cassiopeia overhead, Ursa Major along the northern horizon.

But it's actually quite a pleasant walk. You can't lose your way, because the pale chalk track is easily visible in the darkness.
