Winspit Ledges 4

So much rain this week. In the past few days, the flood plains here have undergone their usual winter transformation, from green fields with cattle grazing in them, to wide grey lakes with swans swimming on them. The lanes have turned into shallow streams. It's still too windy to go walking in the woods, so I drove down to the coast again, to follow the sheltered track down the valley to the old quarries at Winspit.

Low cloud, and light drizzle in the wind as I set off through the village of Worth Matravers. No tourists sitting on the green beside the duckpond today.

Didn't fancy taking the slippery path down through the fields today, so I diverted onto the tarmac lane that runs along the edge of the village beside modern bungalows and villas. Most of the properties are holiday cottages now, and rather bleak in winter. No cars parked in the driveways. No lights on in the houses. Boring low-maintenance gardens planted to lawn.

The tarmac lane joins the track down to the sea. It's a nice sheltered winter walk, following the valley, and even in a wet winter the mud doesn't get too deep on the stone track.

Found a place out of the wind to sit and drink my coffee. Watched the waves washing in, a Black-backed Gull soar by. The rain beginning to patter down heavily.

Time to head back up the track to Worth.

You're braver than we are, venturing out for a walk in the rain. We have our eye on next Thursday as the next (possibly) fine day.

I have many happy memories of Winspit. Back in the days when it was safe to go in the caves, and before mobile phones started being used as torches, a group of us used to go there for a day every summer.

Sadly, I don't think the photo link will work, DW's software being so crap when it comes to images, but let's try - https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipNl-LSbVwH8C5hqasAoG_SreA8W4re3LvEKiamu/photo/AF1QipPLquew8sSJpcWhYE9F663IfyVVzrc_5RDOOrCJ

We held a day long supersoaker fight there, in cheerful celebration of an episode each of Blake's 7 and Dr Who being shot there.

It was glorious fun.

Those waves are rolling in in a very meaningful sort of way!
