The Death of Computers pays a visit with its Tiny Scythe

The March wind is cold, and the sun is shining. I went to Moreton to see the hellebores. (I don't know why. They are never glad to see me. Just hang their heads and refuse to meet my eye.)

No pictures for the time being. My PC has died. Won't switch on.

Left a message on the Computer Wizard's answering service. He has successfully revived my PC a couple of times in the past. But it must be seven or eight years old now, and, whenever Windows runs an update, it is slow as treacle for two or three days. Possibly it is time to think about a new computer.

This is why I refuse to update my OS. This Dell laptop is 13 years old and has never had to be revived. The hard drive is 90% full.

I have a laptop that came with Windows 10. What a disastrous buy that was. It has just enough memory to run Windows 10, but not enough memory to run anything else: including the Windows 10 updates. Every time Windows updates, it stops working for a couple of days.

I think my "gaming" laptop runs Windows 10. I don't like how it's organized and how there are no mouse buttons on the touch pad. That laptop is there just in case this old Windows 7 laptop dies and so one day I can play that video game I helped crowdfund. Overall, I'd expect that after 11 years computers would have become ten times better, not just 'adequate'. At least the 'gaming' computer boots very quickly.
