View from the Churchyard at Charlton Marshall

I don't think I've ever seen the River Stour quite so high. At Spetisbury on Saturday, the road to Shapwick over Crawford Bridge was closed due to flooding. And at Charlton Marshall, the water in the fields was creeping ever closer to the new houses they have built on the flood plain.


Luckily, the village church is built on a slight rise, and is in no danger. But the headstones look rather alarmed at the rising water.

That river does look very high, and yes so close to the headstones.

Luckily the churchyard is on an embankment, about four feet above the level of the fields, so I think the church will be safe enough, for the next few years anyway. Who knows what will happen in the long term... The weather just keeps breaking records.
